How do we sleep while we’re burning?

Art exhibition by the Horror Vacui group at the Athens Municipal Art Gallery, curated by Stratis Pantazis, with the support of the Organization for Culture, Sports, and Youth of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA). The title is inspired by a variation on the lyric “How do we sleep while our beds are burnin’?” from the Midnight Oil song. Fire and its symbols, meanings and contradictory qualities—warmth, love and life on one hand, punishment, destruction and death on the other—form the central theme, appearing directly or indirectly in the works of the eight artists of the Horror Vacui group: Anita Argyroiliopoulou, Andrea Vousoura, Charalambos Dermatis, Antigone Kavvatha, Andrea Lyberato, Eusevia Michailidou, Barbara Spyrouli and Martha Tsiara. The exhibition opening takes place on Friday, September 18, at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free for the public. Venue: City of Athens Art Gallery (Building B), Leonidou and Mylleou, Metaxourgeio. Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., closed on Mondays.
