What cookies and local storage are

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. Your browser’s local storage does a similar job. Both help a website remember things, such as that you have signed in.

What we store

  • next-adventure:auth (local storage): keeps the basic details of your account (email, username, name, role and photo) and the sign-in token that proves to the platform that it is you. It stays until you sign out or your session expires.
  • NEXT_LOCALE (cookie): remembers your language for the site, so your next visit opens in it. It is set when you choose a language, or sign in to an account that has one, and it lasts a year.
  • next-adventure:invitation:… (local storage): when you open an invitation link, its key is kept here so it is not lost if you sign in or sign up along the way. It is deleted as soon as the invitation is linked to your account or the link stops being valid.

All three are needed for the page you ask for to work (your sign-in, your language and the invitation you opened), so they do not need your consent (Article 4 of Greek Law 3471/2006). We do not use them for statistics or advertising.

Optional usage statistics

PostHog is only switched on after you choose “Accept”. It counts page visits and basic details of your device and browser. We do not record sessions, text you type or clicks, and we do not link the statistics to your account. We remove the parameters and the part after # from page addresses.

Your choice is stored as next-adventure:analytics-consent in local storage. Once you accept, PostHog also stores visitor and session identifiers under keys that start with ph_. The statistics are hosted in PostHog’s EU region. See PostHog’s privacy policy.

You can decline, or withdraw your acceptance, from “Statistics settings” at the bottom of every page. New statistics then stop being sent and PostHog’s stored identifiers are deleted. Your choice stays stored until you delete the site’s data.

Third-party services we load

  • Google Fonts: the platform’s icons are loaded from Google’s servers on every page. To do this, Google receives your IP address.
  • Sign in with Google: the sign-in and sign-up pages load the “Sign in with Google” button, which appears in a frame of its own. Google may store cookies of its own and works under its own terms.
  • Google Maps: when you create or edit an event and search for a place, Google’s map service is loaded. It is also loaded when you view the embedded map on the page of an event or an experience, if it has been chosen to show it.

See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses cookies.

How to manage them

In your browser’s settings you can see and delete the data a website stores, or block it. If you delete Next Adventure’s data, you will be signed out, and you will need to open again the link of any invitation not yet linked to your account. If you block local storage, you will not be able to sign in. When you sign out from your account menu, your sign-in details are deleted at once.

If something changes

Before any new use of storage that is not necessary, we will ask for your consent first and update this page.
